Increase in average age that people decide to tie the knot

The average age of a couple's first marriage today is twenty-five for women, twenty-seven for men.

Twenty years ago, it was twenty-two for women and twenty-four for men.

What do you think has caused people to wait longer to tie the knot?

- People want to be financially secure before they marry.
- They want to play the field longer.
- People co-habit longer.
- There are less restrictions on men and women to actually marry. In most cases its expensive. I had one friend marry this year and it cost about AUD100K. Another is getting married next year and that is going to cost about 50K i'm told. Its not a cheap way to say "I love you". Not many women settle for cheaper options of getting married.
- Most young people these days travel and see the world before settling into the working rut.

AK

i was raised old school for the most part and i had a dream of being married by time i was 21 and that never happened, and bad things happened that prevented that form happening but all in the past now, now im hoping i can be married by time im 25-27. i really dont want to spend my life alone and i want to find my one and be happy, just its hard to do. but i guess ill be "financially secure" by that time since thats all most people care about or from what ive found in my experience.
